How to Get the Perfect Measurement
Accurate measurements are crucial for a perfect fit and blackout performance. Please use a steel tape measure and provide all dimensions in millimetres (mm).
The correct way to measure depends on whether you select an Inside Mount (Recess Fit) or an Outside Mount (Face Fit).
Inside Mount
For blinds fitting neatly inside the window frame.
Width: Measure the exact internal width of the window frame at three different points: top, middle, and bottom. Record the smallest of these three measurements. This ensures the blind will fit, even if the window isn’t perfectly square.
Drop (Height): Measure the exact internal height from the top of the frame down to the windowsill at three points: left, middle, and right. Again, record the smallest of these three measurements.
❗️ Crucial Depth & Obstruction Check: Before you finalise, check the depth of your window recess.
- You need at least 65mm of clear, unobstructed recess depth for the blind’s headbox to fit correctly.
- Look for any obstructions like handles, locks, or winders. Ensure these will not interfere with where the side channels will sit or obstruct the blind fabric as it moves up and down.
Outside Mount
For blinds mounted on the wall or architrave, overlapping the window opening.
Width: Measure the exact width you want the blind to cover.
- With Window Trim (Architraves): Measure from the outer edge of the left trim to the outer edge of the right trim.
- No Trim: Measure the opening’s width and add exactly 84mm (42mm for each side). This precise addition is required to accommodate the side channels that ensure a total blackout.
Drop (Height): Measure the exact height you want the blind to cover.
- With Window Trim: Measure from the outer edge of the top trim to the top of the windowsill.
- No Trim: Measure the opening’s height and add exactly 90mm. This specific allowance accounts for the 65mm headbox at the top and the 25mm U-channel that sits on the windowsill.
⚠️ Final Reminders:
- Double-check your numbers before entering them to avoid mistakes.
- Provide the exact measurements you take. Do NOT make any deductions or allowances. Our factory will make the precise adjustments needed for a perfect installation.
- Measure each window individually, even if they appear to be the same size.
